Most international students are eligible to work in Canada while studying. Work for students can take any or a combination of the following:

  • Work on campus or off campus
  • Co-op placements: These work opportunities are part of students’ program of study. They are a great way to get hands-on professional experience in a Canadian work setting.
  • Internships: An internship is a great opportunity for on-the-job training. It also equips you with knowledge and skills to help you succeed in a trade or profession.

Open work permits for spouses:

  • As an international student, you may choose to bring your spouse with you for study in Canada. If you are enrolled in a master’s or doctoral program, your spouse is eligible for an open work permit to work in Canada.
